Lost again, broken and weary
Unable to find my way
Tail in hand, dizzy and clearly
Unable to just let this go.

edit: i was away from the town for a couple for filming and i saw this photo of mine was chosen as daily deviation. This photo is not meant to show "how heartless i am to take photos of the poor" but its meant to make people around the world realize the harsh living conditions of the poor and create a social awareness on how to help the poor in these cold days.

please do help if you ever see any person trying to survive in harsh weather conditions.

Daily Deviation

Suggester says; A deeply powerful street photograph; it's hard not to be moved by such a raw, emotional display of helpless surrender.
Surrender To Snow by *PortraitOfaLife ( Suggested by =GraphiteColours and Featured by `ScENeYmE )

Wow, really touching yet giving away a great impact.

Let me start by saying that the vision of this photo is beyong magnificient : the homeless guy, just sitting there, almost hopeless gives away a great sense of sorrow and loneliness, however, you pick up that "lonely" feeling by introducing people in the background. Given the current social acceptance of those people, they might just walk past him without noticing.

The simple blur effect that draws attention directly on the homeless person and the area around him is very well used.

With the snow, we can directly make a link between those two where the snow is like the only company of the homeless man, giving at the same time a cold feeling (sorrow) and a warm feeling.

In sum, your piece is a "chef d'oeuvre", I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Awesome technique, incredible impact, very original and giving away a wonderful vision. Keep up the awesome work!

First of all, how did you get the snow to cooperate to not be in the way of his face when you took the shot? :) Jokes aside, this is a very powerful and poignant image. Its makes a strong social commentary on the forgotten in society. By the way, the snow adds a level of harshness perception to the piece that wouldn't occur if it wasn't there. As far as mechanics, I think you did a great job on the focus. There is wonderful contrasts in your dark and light areas. I think the low angle of the shot brings the audience down to the visual level of your subject not allowing them to be in a higher (perceptually better) position. Snowy days are usually overcast so it lets me know you did an admirable job with creating light in your image. I think you were right to choose to present it in B&W because I think it would have been less powerful in color. The depth of field you created creates space for your viewers to delve into. All in all, I think its a great example of what photography can accomplish when putting a "window on the world".

Brilliant shot - and great motive!!! I hope you also help people in such "distress" - for we all know what our souls demand of us, but often our ego stops us from "getting involved"... :-(

What a powerful photograph! clear focus on the man and that light that falls just upon him...
It really feels like a surrendering to the cold, helpless.
It's great to read that you did something or him after taking the photo, or you could have been just like the other people passing by, just passing by with a camera. Great work, really ;)
